A recent discussion in chat was about living the D/s lifestyle 24/7. Several argued that 24/7 is not possible. i took a very defensive stance which i kind of regret because really it doesn’t matter what they think about the 24/7 lifestyle. What is important is that living it, i know it’s possible and understand how it works.
Of course 24/7 isn’t for everyone, some used the excuse of having children or various things in their lives that would prevent them from doing so, and if they have those thoughts, i agree that it probably would not work for them.
There seem to be misconceptions about 24/7 though. Being 24/7 doesn’t necessarily mean you are kneeling at your Master’s feet every minute of the day or that you can’t have a job outside of the home where you are required to make decisions.
What 24/7 does mean is that as the submissive, i am living and striving to meet the expectations of my Dominant every moment of the day and night. That doesn’t mean He sets expectations that are impossible to meet or even out of the seeming “norm”. His expectations may be quite vanilla seeming. A submissive working outside of the home may just be expected to comport herself in a certain way that brings Him pride.
i think that those who don’t do 24/7 somehow have this preconceived picture of what it means to practice the lifestyle 24/7. Can it be done with children in the home? Can it be done in public? Can you practice 24/7 amongst vanilla’s outside of your home? i believe the answer is yes, as long as the expectations are well within societal norms. Frankly, i would not be with a Dom who didn’t present us in the best possible light to friends, family and work associates.
